About The Position

The Summer Research Program Intern will support the Cyber Operations and Analysis Technology Group at MIT Lincoln Laboratory in creating advanced technologies to ensure the security and resiliency of next-generation mission-critical and/or cyber operational systems. The intern will perform analysis, develop technology, and/or build software as part of a research team, working with a principal investigator and experienced researchers. The role offers considerable autonomy and independence alongside collaborative research opportunities. Candidates should be working toward a BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science, Computer Security, Mathematics, Data Science, AI, or a related field. The Summer Research Program gives students an opportunity to apply academic knowledge to real-world national security challenges while working with scientists and engineers. Interns participate in hands-on research, receive dedicated mentorship, and have access to professional development such as workshops, technical talks, and networking events. Internships are typically 10–12 weeks, with flexible start and end dates, usually from May through early August. Eligible non-local interns may receive housing support, including access to discounted university housing in Boston and a one-time taxable relocation payment. Complimentary daily shuttle transportation is provided between Boston-based housing and the Lab. Compensation is hourly and depends on the highest academic year or degree completed before the internship begins. Listed rates are effective January–December 2026 and will be reviewed for Summer 2027, ranging from $25.00 per hour for completion of freshman year to $43.50 per hour for completion of MS + 3 years of graduate study. The selected candidate will undergo a pre-employment background investigation and must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret-level DoD security clearance. U.S. citizenship is required.
