About The Position

Facilitate evening programming from 4:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. for teens in Muskegon age 13-19 at Muskegon Middle School and the Boys & Girls Clubhouse. This role involves supervision and instruction of Club programs, providing guidance and enforcement of policies, and participating in the daily stewardship of program spaces. The coordinator will collaborate in program development and implementation, maintain a safe and inclusive environment, and participate in program evaluation. Key responsibilities include facilitating engaging programming in sports, art, fishing, swimming, and other activities, contributing to positive youth development through relationship building and mentorship, and serving as a life-skills teacher. The role also supports the supervision of teens for summer programming, assists with record keeping, and ensures facilities and equipment are properly maintained. Additionally, the coordinator will develop positive partnerships, conduct administrative duties, and participate in special Club programs and events.

Requirements

  • Must be age 19+
  • Prior experience working with Teens preferred in either a paid or volunteer capacity, including but not limited to mentoring, tutoring, coaching, and teaching
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Group leadership skills, including an understanding of group dynamics
  • First Aid and CPR/AED within 90 days required
  • Assistant Instructors are expected to teach both in and out of the water, therefore strong personal swimming skills are required.
  • Must be able to sit, stand or walk for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to squat or bend to communicate at youths’ level.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and carry up to 10 pounds for short periods of time.
  • Must be willing and able to actively participate in regular in-service training and maintain minimum fitness levels required to perform duties.

Responsibilities

  • Supervision and instruction of Club programs
  • Provide guidance and enforcement of all relevant policies and procedures to participants and guests in program spaces.
  • Participate in the daily stewardship of assigned program spaces including, but not limited to, cleaning and safety inspections.
  • Collaborate in the development and implementation of programming
  • Maintain settings that ensure the health, safety, and sense of belonging for Club members, staff, and guests.
  • Participate in the evaluation of programs to ensure programs/activities respond to member needs and address their gender and cultural diversity
  • Facilitate programming for teens that is engaging in sports, art, fishing, swimming, and various other activities.
  • Contribute to positive youth development through relationship building, providing recognition, influencing, coaching by example and servant leadership, providing members with feedback, listening and fostering organizational wellness
  • Serve as a mentor and life-skills teacher to all members at all times
  • Fulfill additional responsibilities for the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Muskegon Lakeshore on or off-site.
  • Support the supervision of teens for summer programming
  • Assist in proper and timely record keeping and reporting. This may include, but is not limited to, program attendance, incident reporting, program audits, and equipment inventory
  • Ensure that facilities, equipment and supplies are properly maintained
  • Ensure a healthy and safe environment by acting to ensure safety and environmental policies and regulatory requirements are met
  • Demonstrate a commitment to excellence and teaching by example by doing one’s best and encouraging others to do their best
  • Work with others to accomplish team objectives
  • Develop positive partnerships with supervisors, members, parents, and families
  • Consult with supervisor concerning member issues; exercising leadership in handling problems related to members, as needed
  • Conduct administrative duties, as assigned (such as outreach and data input)
  • Participate in special Club programs and events and represent the Club through community involvements
  • Work with staff on special events to carry out programs in all departments
  • Advise professional staff of needed supplies and equipment
  • Utilize guidance and discipline plan
  • Perform all other duties that may be necessary to carry out the purpose of the organization.
