About The Position

Under the supervision of the Summer Rec Program Coordinator, the Summer Rec Program Assistant is responsible for the supervision of children, ages 5-12; is responsible for conducting a variety of safe, fun, and interesting activities. Also is responsible for developing a positive relationship with his/her group in a safe environment.

Requirements

  • One year of prior experience working one on one with children ages 5-12 and a High School Diploma or GED and one year relevant experience, OR 3 years of relevant work experience working one on one with children ages 5-12.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but involved written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Must pass WATCH and Tribal Court Background Check.
  • Must have CPR/First Aid certification, or be able to obtain it within the pre-program staff training.
  • Regularly required to talk or hear.
  • Frequently required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms.
  • Occasionally required to sit, climb or balance, stoop, kneel or crawl and taste or smell.
  • Frequently lift up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift up to 25-50 pounds.
  • Professional attire suitable for the work environment is required.
  • The successful candidate will be required to have a urinalysis for drug and alcohol screening in accordance with the Tribe’s Drug Free Workplace Policy.
  • There will be no tolerance for the use of alcohol or illegal drugs while employed in the Summer Youth Program.
  • Use of tobacco in front of the youth or during work time is not allowed.
  • Any violation of these policies is cause for immediate termination.

Nice To Haves

  • Current Washington State Driver’s License preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide continuous supervision and ensure the health and safety of children ages 5–12.
  • Guide, lead, and actively participate with assigned groups in daily activities.
  • Foster group cohesion and encourage positive behavior and respectful interactions.
  • Support the social, emotional, and developmental needs of children.
  • Model and reinforce prevention.
  • Attend and participate in daily morning and afternoon staff meetings.
  • Assist with maintaining participant files, including registration, medical, and permission forms.
  • Support daily attendance tracking, incident documentation, field trip rosters, and required program records.
  • Adhere to all program rules, operating principles, and policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrate prior experience working one-on-one with children ages 5–12.
  • Attend mandatory pre-program staff training (June 22–June 26).
  • Work the full Summer Recreation. Program schedule (June 30–August 8), Monday–Thursday, 8am-4pm; 8am-2pm on Fridays.
  • Maintain consistent Monday–Friday availability for the full program duration.
