About The Position

OhioGuidestone is seeking a Summer Program Youth Care Specialist for a seasonal position. This role is part of the Residential Treatment team, focusing on providing out-of-home care for boys and girls with complex trauma, mental health needs, academic struggles, and severe emotional and behavioral concerns. The position offers a Monday-Friday schedule from 7:30 am to 3:30 pm, running from June 1st to August 19th, with potential for a permanent role afterward. The organization is a leader in community behavioral health care, serving approximately 26,000 Ohioans annually through telehealth and in-person services, including mental health and substance use treatment.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age (in accordance with licensing guidelines).
  • Must have a valid Ohio Driver’s License with a safe driving record and valid insurance.
  • Ability to take and pass a physical exam, tuberculosis test, and drug screening.
  • PAARR and PAARR physical training is an essential function of the position and must be completed to the satisfaction of the instructor.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in a Social Service field.

Responsibilities

  • Works as an integral member of the Residential Treatment team.
  • Builds and maintains strong, nurturing relationships with residents and staff.
  • Observes professional boundaries at all times.
  • Effectively communicates with all.
  • Provides leadership in advocacy and support for residents in care.
  • Supervises residents to ensure a safe and therapeutic environment during assigned shift.
  • Handles emergency situations such as environmental, weather-related, or physical injury.
  • Provides crisis intervention to residents according to policies and procedures.
  • Develops and consistently implements structured routines for daily functioning (wake-up, hygiene, meals, activities, bedtime).
  • Plans and organizes activities and educational groups for residents to promote change and growth in social skill building, and physical, emotional, and mental development, according to treatment plans.
  • Implements activities consistent with the Brain Building model for treatment.
  • Completes all required documentation, including CIR’s, daily logs, night logs, communication logs, USDA logs, and any other required documentation.
  • Completes all required training prior to deadlines, both in-person and online.
  • Correctly utilizes PAARR and PAARR physical techniques at all times.
  • Maintains active status in all required certifications and trainings.
  • Maintains regular and reliable attendance.
  • May be involved in planning, organizing, and implementing special events, department-specific projects, or seasonal program changes.
  • Exhibits positivity, flexibility, and a willingness to take on new responsibilities.
  • Demonstrates positive leadership and promotes a team-based work environment.
  • Presents the agency in the most positive light with all internal and external contacts.
