About The Position

To promote the Mission of The Salvation Army through assisting in the planning and facilitation of summer programs for local children, assist in mobilizing efforts with a mind towards evangelism/service, visitation of nursing home residents, assist with VBS, assist with Summer JAM (Junior Arts and Music) and with some summer social services programs at The Salvation Army Canton Citadel.

Requirements

  • High School diploma required.
  • Must pass TSA background check and KeepSAfe Training.
  • Must pass criminal records screening.
  • Must be 18.
  • Must be able to read, write and communicate clearly, in English.
  • Must be able to communication effectively and clearly.
  • Must be safety conscious.
  • Must have the ability to work and relate well with individuals with varying needs.
  • Must be able to handle difficult situations/confrontations in a professional manner.
  • Must possess an understanding of, and appreciation for, the Mission of The Salvation Army.

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred age is 21 years of age (for driving).
  • Valid Driver’s License preferred and be able to meet The Salvation Army’s requirements for driving a 12-passenger van.
  • Previous experience/involvement in TSA programs preferred.
  • CPR/First Aid Certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Wellness Coordinator and Corps Officers with the planning, preparation and implementation of summer youth programs (sports programs, music/arts programs, VBS, etc.); including activity schedules for each program and adherence to program guidelines.
  • Provide a positive and safe experience for children.
  • Participate in the preparation for, and implementation of, summer mobilizing efforts with a mind toward evangelism.
  • Participate in Nursing Home Visitation.
  • Assist with packaging of Soup Kitchen and Canton Towers meals.
  • Complete and file reports for programs, activities, disciplinary or accident issues in a timely, neat and orderly manner.
  • Keep records/statistics as requested from Coordinator.
  • Assist with set up and clean up of program areas (meals, drinks and/or snacks).
  • Assist the youth with getting their meals/drinks/snacks and participate in these with the youth.
  • Provide list of needed supplies to Coordinator on a weekly basis.
  • Assist with cleaning and inventories.
  • Supervise volunteers as requested.
  • As needed, drive the 12 passenger van or Subaru for pickups and take homes.
  • Other duties as assigned by Wellness Coordinator or Corps Officers.
