About The Position

Spend your Summer empowering teens with disabilities as they enter the workforce! The Summer Work Program is a 6-week program funded by Vocational Rehabilitation that gives High School students the opportunity to work in a paid position of their choice to gain valuable hard and soft skills that will assist them for job readiness after graduation. The Summer Work Job Coach is a temporary position with the Summer Work Experience Program(SWEP). Those hired will have the option to transfer to a different department after the SWEP ends (as available) or may choose to end their employment after the SWE program is completed. In this position, your goal is to be a coach and mentor to students with disabilities as they take the first step in building job related skills and work experience to begin to develop their talents. The level of support varies from individual to individual, but the mission is the same: serve others so they can direct their own lives as independent, valued members of their community.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent
  • Valid license, insurance and reliable means of transportation to and from the worksite daily.
  • Soft Skills such as: patience, punctuality, empathy, and good judgement
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Must be able to work in a variety of conditions and environments including indoors and outdoors
  • Must be able to use a variety of hand tools and cleaning chemicals.
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time, stoop, bend, walk on a variety of terrain
  • Must be able to work in heat and direct sun
  • Good decision-making, communication abilities, and problem-solving skills.
  • Good public relations skills
  • Knowledge of the community and strong personal network.
  • Ability, willingness, and commitment to furthering knowledge and education.
  • Ability to independently lift items weighing up to 50 lbs on at least an intermittent basis
  • Ability to stand for long periods, bend, stoop and reach overhead.
  • Ability to work in a variety of environments which could include dust, extreme hot and cold temperatures, strong odors and industrial chemicals.
  • Ability to work varied and flexible hours, accept and adapt to changes in assignment, methods, schedule, and policies, etc.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with individuals served, employers, other community members, funding sources, families, and other providers.
  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Valid chauffeur’s license with a good driving record
  • Dependable automobile and current Liability auto insurance.

Nice To Haves

  • Work experience with individuals with disabilities or social service background preferred but not required.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in Human Services or Employment field preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Overseeing the daily work tasks of the students at their assigned job site.
  • Focusing on job readiness with the students through guided instruction and teaching of soft skills.
  • Working alongside a group of 4 to 7 students at one of the Summer Work sites for 20 hours per week for a total of 6 weeks (Plus paid training).
  • Being the employer’s main contact during the Summer Work Program to ensure students develop a natural support in the workplace.
  • Assisting individuals with disabilities with maintaining employment.
  • Supporting the individual through work samples (called community based assessments) in area businesses.
  • Assisting to connect the individual with community resources.
  • Assisting with transportation planning/ bus training.
  • Assisting with building and maintaining prevocational (soft) skills.
  • Ongoing coaching and retention support once they have accepted a job offer of their choosing.
  • Facilitating supports the individual needs at the worksite.
  • Providing support one-on-one or in a group setting with up to 6 individuals.
  • Providing additional support with developing work relationships, setting a routine, meeting timelines, and ensuring quality.
  • Planning a gradual fading process for one-on-one support.
  • Developing a plan for long-term follow along support.
  • Communicating through the entire process with supervisors, the individual receiving services, funding sources, employers, and other members of the individuals support team.
  • Ensuring quality and satisfaction of all customers.
  • Asking for feedback and suggestions from all parties involved through formal and informal methods.
  • Serving as an ambassador of the mission and purpose of The Arc of the Ozarks.
  • Using Person-Centered and Employment First principles as the guiding influence in daily interactions.
  • Supporting clients using respectful language in all phases or support while facilitating meaningful and informed choices.
  • Utilizing personal networks to facilitate successful employment and measure consumer satisfaction, using results to continuously improve employment services for individuals.
  • Utilizing a variety of techniques to assist people to be socially included at work while identifying and facilitating the use of supports that are typical in the workplace.
  • Pro-actively problem-solving and communicating effectively both in writing and verbally.
  • Using teaching strategies to train and facilitate training with clients and providing follow-along services when needed.
  • Providing input to team members concerning the support needs and progress of the individual.
  • Assisting Employment Solutions and The Arc of the Ozarks in Public Relations Activities to promote disability awareness, community inclusion, and programming support.
  • Working in a variety of locations in all the counties we serve to best support client employment.
  • Preparing assessment reports, job development reports, intake paperwork, D&E reports, monthly reports, and job coaching summaries and submitting these reports to Employment Specialist according to established timelines.
  • Conducting and attending planning meetings and assisting the individual in advocating their needs and desires for employment.
  • Working a flexible schedule in a variety of different environments to meet the support needs with client.
  • Recording and maintaining all daily and monthly paperwork requirements.
  • Meeting time lines, organizing workload, and managing time effectively.
  • Working independently with minimal supervision, exercising good judgment and managing stress.
  • Assisting in department goal setting and planning.
  • Building relationships with the business community and offering recruitment assistance to meet their hiring needs, assisting in securing appropriate job matches.
  • Assisting the person in accessing additional resources, filling out applications, resumes, interviews, and mock interviews.
  • Maintaining knowledge of occupations and expectations of the occupations in the area.
