About The Position

Oaktree's 2027 Summer Internship Program in the U.S. offers a 10-week immersive experience from mid-June to mid-August. The program aims to recruit enthusiastic and talented interns to join various departments within the organization. Applications are open until September 21, 2026, with two recruitment waves: September-October and December-January. Candidates can submit a maximum of 3 applications per wave. All opportunities are based in Los Angeles, except where noted. The internship provides exposure to different investment strategies and departments within Oaktree Capital Management.

Requirements

  • Expected graduation year of 2029 for Global Opportunities and Real Estate Equity roles.
  • Expected graduation year of 2028 or 2029 for Global Private Debt, Sourcing & Origination, Special Situations, and U.S. Senior Loans roles.
  • Candidates can submit a maximum of 3 total applications per application wave.
  • Must be eligible to work in the U.S.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in distressed debt, reorganizations, and restructurings.
  • Familiarity with investing across the capital structure in public and private markets.
  • Understanding of traded and non-traded credit markets.
  • Knowledge of high yield bonds and senior loans.
  • Experience with bottom-up fundamental credit analysis.
  • Exposure to stressed credit investing.
  • Understanding of real estate investment opportunities including direct property, real estate-related corporations, CMBS, residential land, assets and loan pools, small-balance commercial loan pools, and non-U.S. investments.
  • Familiarity with development opportunities.
  • Experience in the intersection of real estate and distressed debt.
  • Understanding of control-oriented debt and equity investments in middle-market companies.
  • Knowledge of distress-for-control strategies and direct equity investments in distressed businesses.
  • Familiarity with broadly-syndicated, senior-secured loans or other senior, non-investment-grade debt.
  • Understanding of U.S. dollar-denominated loans secured by first-priority liens in performing companies.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Global Opportunities strategy in Los Angeles.
  • Assist the Global Private Debt team in Los Angeles and/or New York.
  • Contribute to the Real Estate Equity team in Los Angeles.
  • Work with the Sourcing & Origination team supporting the Strategic Credit strategy in New York.
  • Support the Special Situations strategy in Los Angeles.
  • Assist the U.S. Senior Loans team in Los Angeles.
