About The Position

This internship is within ING's Wholesale Banking division in New York, focusing on Risk Management. The role offers exposure to various departments within Risk, including Transactional Approval and Advisory, Trading Risk Management, Counterparty Credit Risk, Credit Restructuring, ORM/IRM Non-Financial Risk, Model Risk Management, Integrated Risk Management, and Compliance. Interns will learn about assessing, monitoring, and managing financial risks, credit analysis, market risk reports, P&L reconciliation, and compliance with regulations. The program aims to develop basic skills in risk analysis, understanding of trading asset classes, and contributing to reporting efficiencies. The internship is a 10-week paid program starting in June 2027.

Requirements

  • Comfortable with Excel and spreadsheets.
  • Team player who is able to work collaboratively with others.
  • Rising seniors (Graduating in 2028) who are pursuing a bachelor’s/master’s degree in finance, Economics or business-related field.
  • Minimum GPA of 3.3 on a scale of 4.0.
  • Good quantitative and analytical skills.
  • Solid understanding of financial analysis/econometrics.
  • Good written and verbal communications skills.
  • Working knowledge of one or more of the following; Microsoft Excel, VBA, Access, SQL, SAS, and Python.

Nice To Haves

  • Basic understanding of financial instruments is preferred though not required.

Responsibilities

  • Learn to report and analyze daily market risk reports (VaR, sensitivities and other risk controls).
  • Reconcile and report daily trading and funding P&L.
  • Develop a working knowledge of various systems used to report daily risk and P&L, such as Sophis, MUREX, Summit, and Peoplesoft products.
  • Assist in special project work on specific topics that may be related to your field of study.
  • Analyze and deliver market risk and P&L reports.
  • Develop an understanding of various trading asset classes such as security financing; fixed income (rates/credit/fx); commodity as well as bank asset/liability mgmt.
  • Contribute to the teams efforts to streamline reporting and reconciliation efficiencies.
  • Assist in recommending and deciding on credit applications for new transactions, modifications and (Risk Rating) reviews.
  • Participate in Portfolio/Sector review meetings and learn about various sectors and credit products.
  • Support senior analysts with individual and sector reviews, including fundamental credit analysis, peer financial analysis, and submitting of credit reports, limits, and ratings.
  • Assist in risk reporting and monitoring (including out-of-policy collateral, periodic market and risk reports, etc.), board presentations and participating in due-diligence calls with C-level management of ING’s counterparties.
  • Contribute to the evaluation of problem credits and work alongside senior banker in recommending a course of action designed to maximize recoveries for the institution.
  • Participate in routine activities, as well as special projects in partnership with other departments within Compliance.
