About The Position

Forge is a boutique consulting firm based in West Des Moines with nearly 40 professionals serving small businesses and non-profits across Iowa and the U.S. We’re not your traditional accounting firm. Requirements

  • Majoring in Accounting and/or Finance.
  • Plan to pursue your CPA license.
  • Curious learner who asks questions, seeks understanding, and embraces change.
  • Genuine and approachable, comfortable talking with teammates or clients.
  • Collaborative spirit, thriving in a “we, not me” culture.
  • Problem-solver who takes initiative, figures things out, and thinks outside the box.
  • Intermediate accounting coursework.
  • Some finance or business analytics coursework.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to analyze financial data and communicate findings clearly.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills.
  • Adaptability and openness to feedback.
  • Growth mindset.
  • Time management skills, embracing tools and systems to prioritize.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with Excel, QuickBooks, or other accounting software.

Responsibilities

  • Explore your career path by gaining real client experience across multiple areas of accounting and finance such as tax, audit, advisory, virtual Controller/CFO support, and project-based consulting.
  • Receive mentorship from CPAs who want to help you succeed.
  • Work approximately 30–32 hours/week, Monday–Thursday, allowing for long weekends.
  • Engage in personal and professional growth activities, including soft-skill development (e.g., Strengths Finders, Enneagram, Kolbe, productivity, communication, and leadership skills).
  • Contribute, problem-solve, and grow your confidence through meaningful work.
  • Positively impact small businesses and non-profits through your work.
