Requirements

  • Completion of at least one semester of an intermediate-level accounting class
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and other computer skills
  • Interest in pursuing a career in public accounting and sitting for the CPA exam

Responsibilities

  • Assist on audit engagements across multiple industries, including for‑profit, nonprofit, and ERISA/benefit plan clients
  • Perform audit testing procedures, such as: Participant data testing and contribution testing (ERISA/401(k)), Cash testing, payroll testing, investment testing, and analytical procedures, Substantive testing, rollforwards, and compliance testing
  • Help prepare and update audit documentation and workpapers, often referencing prior‑year files
  • Gain exposure to on‑site audit work, including interacting with client personnel and observing audit procedures in real time
  • Use audit software and tools such as CaseWare, XCM, ShareFile, client portals, and Excel
  • Learn how audit teams plan, execute, and review engagements from start to finish
  • Prepare and assist with individual and business tax returns, including: Forms 1040, 1065, 1120, 1120S, 1041, and gift tax returns
  • Work on GSC (grouped) returns, gaining repetition and confidence across similar but non‑identical clients
  • Input and reconcile K‑1s, trial balances, fixed assets, and adjusting journal entries
  • Assist with book‑to‑tax reconciliations, diagnostics, and clearing review points
  • Support first‑year and new‑client returns, learning how information flows when no prior‑year data exists
  • Use tax software such as CCH Axcess, SurePrep, Fixed Assets, and related tools
  • Conduct basic tax research and assist with internal or external tax blog content on current tax topics
