About The Position

The MISO 2027 Summer Internship Program is seeking individuals pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer Engineering, or a related field. This internship offers a chance to contribute to MISO's critical operations by driving innovations that enhance system reliability, resilience, and performance. Interns will tackle complex technical challenges in the energy industry, with opportunities to see their ideas make a real impact in keeping the lights on for millions of people.

Requirements

  • Pursuing Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer Engineering (undergraduate or graduate).
  • Coursework or experience in operating systems, IT infrastructure, systems administration, and programming (especially Python).
  • Comfortable using or learning tools like Windows/Unix administration, Git, GitHub, GitHub Actions, Ansible, Packer, and Python.
  • Hands-on experience with Windows or Linux systems, scripting, and version control.
  • Curious, collaborative, mission-driven, and eager to learn automation tools and troubleshoot technical issues.
  • Available to start Wednesday, June 2nd, 2027 and continue through Friday, August 13th, 2027.
  • No VISA sponsorship opportunities, including OPT/CPT.

Responsibilities

  • Build and improve automation that helps create, configure, and secure computer systems for MISO’s critical operations.
  • Work with engineers to troubleshoot issues, implement fixes, and see your automation make real systems more reliable and easier to deploy.
  • Use tools like Ansible, Python, GitHub Actions, and Packer to replace manual steps with faster, more consistent, and secure processes.
  • Attend community service events, intern socials, networking activities, and development programming to help you grow your confidence, build relationships, and understand MISO’s broader mission.
  • Wrap up the summer with a final presentation summarizing your project work, recommendations, and areas of impact.
