About The Position

This internship program provides hands-on, career-specific experience working full-time during the summer. Interns will work on real projects that deliver tangible benefits and measurable results, while also learning about and helping to solve important issues. The role involves experiencing genuine teamwork, working alongside highly qualified and experienced colleagues on live projects and operations, using the latest equipment and technology. Petroleum and reservoir engineers play a crucial role in bp’s field operation success, ensuring hydrocarbons are extracted safely and efficiently. They support the entire lifecycle of an oil or gas field, from evaluating prospects to defining potential productivity and profitability, to developing areas to optimize hydrocarbon production. As a Reservoir Engineer, the focus is on integrating geoscience, facilities, and production engineering data to understand reservoir performance, plan field developments, and optimize economic recovery. Reservoir engineers also support exploration and appraisal projects. The internship offers exposure and experience through partnering with specialists across the business, primarily in areas such as Reservoir and Well Performance (reservoir and well reviews, performance analysis, well planning, flood management), Reservoir Management (depletion strategy, field development options, reserves estimation), and Reservoir Simulation (history matching, model building). Successful interns may be considered for a full-time role within the One Subsurface program upon earning their degree. The One Subsurface program is designed to create a pipeline of subsurface professionals with a structured development offer to accelerate technical skills, experience, and knowledge. It supports the transition from university to a discipline professional and provides a framework for non-technical skills. Interns will build experience through challenging development assignments, grow a toolkit of transferable skills, and have a dedicated support network.
