This internship program provides hands-on, career-specific experience working full-time during the summer. Interns will work on real projects that deliver tangible benefits and measurable results, while also learning about and helping to solve important issues. The role involves experiencing genuine teamwork, working alongside highly qualified and experienced colleagues on live projects and operations, using the latest equipment and technology. Petroleum and reservoir engineers play a crucial role in BP’s field operation success, from exploration to production. As a Summer Intern petroleum or reservoir engineer, you’ll be integral to ensuring hydrocarbons are extracted safely and efficiently from global discoveries. You’ll be a vital member of the team, supporting the entire lifecycle of an oil or gas field and gaining exposure and experience through partnering with specialists across the business. Petroleum Engineers (PEs) use tools, methodologies, and technologies to collate data from the field to effectively manage and optimize base production and injection. PEs work within multi-disciplinary teams to ensure wells and operations remain safe, efficient, compliant, and sustainable. Key focus areas include Production Management (maximizing value of existing hubs through rigorous production and injection monitoring and optimization), Opportunity Progression (wellwork candidate identification, planning, and execution, using system modeling to identify and progress opportunities, and contributing to well and reservoir reviews), Risk and Vulnerability Management (understanding surveillance, barriers, and mitigation measures), and Digital Enhancements (using digital tools to store well notes and document events, maintaining key information for future teams, and using and growing digital capability to drive efficiency and simplification). Petroleum Engineering interns may have the opportunity to go offshore, requiring specific training and a valid TWIC card. Successful interns will be considered for a full-time role within the One Subsurface Development Program upon earning their degree. The One Subsurface program is designed to create a pipeline of subsurface professionals with a structured development offer to accelerate the acquisition of foundational technical skills, experience, and knowledge. It supports the transition from university to a discipline professional and provides a framework of non-technical skills to support personal effectiveness. Interns will build experience through challenging development assignments, grow transferable skills, and have a dedicated support network.
