About The Position

As an Operations Analytics Intern, you will contribute to the Operations Management Balancing and Interchange’s (OMBI) mission of supporting 24/7 grid operators by building and refining scheduling and workforce analytics. This role helps Control Room leadership stay ahead of scheduling conflicts, turnaround risks, and Regional Transmission Organization (RTO) order violations. You will gain hands-on experience with dashboarding and reporting tools like Power BI and Excel to identify scheduling risks, perform data analysis using SQL and Python to uncover scheduling and workforce trends, and work on real-world projects such as system migrations, scenario-based training design, or scheduling health indicators that feed into MISO’s Monthly Ops Metrics Review. A typical day involves reviewing overnight scheduling data, checking in with the team, pulling data in SQL, updating Power BI views, or participating in working sessions with schedulers to understand and resolve pain points. The role offers a mix of independent analysis and direct interaction with end-users. Impact is measured by the adoption and continued use of built tools and streamlined processes.

Requirements

  • Strong skills in Microsoft Excel and Power BI
  • SQL for data analysis
  • Academic Level: Undergraduate
  • Degree: Industrial Engineering, Operations Research, or Data Analytics

Nice To Haves

  • Coursework or experience in data analytics, operations management, engineering fundamentals, or process improvement
  • Hands-on project experience with dashboards, workflow design, system migration, or scenario-based training
  • Prior internship experience in operations, analytics, or reliability environments

Responsibilities

  • Build and refine scheduling and workforce analytics.

  • Engage in independent analysis and direct conversation with end-users.
  • Present findings to Control Room leadership and cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Gain hands-on experience with data analytics, process improvement, and workflow design.
  • Contribute scheduling health indicators to MISO’s Monthly Ops Metrics Review.
