The Summer Intern, Operational Excellence Lean will support the Colorado Springs, Colorado Plant through Lean transformation and daily management initiatives. This role is an integral part of the plant’s daily operations, growth, and transformation, ensuring principles, practices, and tools are incorporated into the Allegion culture. The intern will interact directly with all levels of plant operations and corporate leadership, playing a key role in implementing and supporting actions that will bring about improvements in safety, customer value proposition, quality, delivery, cycle, growth, margin expansion, and inventory.

Requirements

  • Pursuing a bachelor's or master's program in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Business, Operations Management, Supply Chain, or a related field.
  • Effective listening, time management, communication, and creative problem-solving techniques.
  • Strong willingness to learn, curiosity about processes, and openness to hands-on shop floor experience.
  • GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • Must be legally authorized to be employed in the United States. The company does not intend to provide sponsorship for employment visa status.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Microsoft Office Excel, Visio, and other various Project/Process Management Tools.
  • Previous work experience.

Responsibilities

  • Support continuous improvement projects, including collecting data, observing current state processes, and implementing future state deliverables using lean methodologies.
  • Drive Operational Excellence culture change through coaching employees and leaders to foster Lean behaviors and adhere to the principles and practices of Allegion’s Operational Excellence Model.
  • Support Lean initiatives as the Lean Specialist in collaboration with the value stream team through operational design, process improvements, and systems support utilizing value stream mapping techniques.
  • Participate in and actively direct Gemba Walks and educate others on continuous improvement, including takt time attainment and Lean methodologies.
  • Implement and maintain visual performance tools.
  • Shadow floor operators, supervisors, and management to observe process steps and build rapport.
