About The Position

Allegion is seeking a Summer Intern – Mechanical Engineer for their Hague Road Technical Center in Indianapolis, Indiana. This internship offers the opportunity to contribute meaningful work and make a direct impact on the Mechanical Engineering Competency. Interns will gain valuable experience in design, development, and technical analysis of moderate scope and complexity, working independently or as part of a project team. Responsibilities include generating, evaluating, analyzing, and developing design concepts for components and assemblies to meet new product requirements and improve current products. Interns will also collaborate with other Engineers to ensure appropriate processes, tooling, and equipment are available for manufacturing-related parts. Additional learning opportunities include electronic locking systems, access control solutions, understanding the differences between residential and commercial security, and participating in peer design reviews. This summer experience is designed to offer meaningful work, learning opportunities, professional development, and the chance to build strong relationships with peers and leaders.

Requirements

  • Pursuing a degree in a relevant discipline, e.g., Mechanical Engineering, System Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering Technology.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability and initiative, e.g., school club officer, sports team captain, resident advisor, leadership on school or work projects, etc.
  • Basic electronics understanding.
  • Ability to work in both a team and individual setting.
  • Resiliency and ability to adapt quickly.
  • Effective listening, time management, and creative problem-solving techniques.
  • A desire to learn, grow, and develop by working on projects that will impact Allegion’s business and customers.
  • Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to be employed in the United States.
  • Experience developing 3D models.
  • Familiarity with engineering tools including FMEA, Root Cause Analysis, GD&T, Tolerance Stack Analysis & DFM/DFA.
  • Experience in Mechanical testing techniques.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with other Engineers to ensure the appropriate processes, tooling, and equipment are available for manufacturing-related parts.
  • Learn about electronic locking systems, access control solutions, how residential and commercial security differ, and participate in peer design reviews.
  • Experience developing 3D models.
  • Utilize tools such as Creo, MS Project, tolerance stack templates, and others as needed in product development.
  • Collaborate with a team to produce well-rounded solutions.
  • Participate in daily and other regular team meetings, including project teams and Mechanical competency.
  • Obtain the experience to create a foundation for growth and future opportunities with Allegion.
