About The Position

The Jefferson Educational Society (JES), Erie’s think tank for community progress, is seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Summer Intern to support the organization’s operations and public programming. This position plays a critical role in ensuring the smooth execution of JES’s daily operations functions while also assisting with the planning, coordination, and delivery of public events, lectures, and forums. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong organizational skills, the ability to manage multiple priorities, and a high level of professionalism when interacting with members, speakers, volunteers, and the public. This position works under the direct supervision of the Vice President of Operations. The student worker will gain skills and knowledge in communication through various forms to JES members and stakeholders in the Erie community. The student worker will work for an organization whose mission aligns with a student in the School of Public Service. The scope of the intern’s work will align with the university program of study and prepare the student for a career in government and/or public service.

Requirements

  • Students must qualify through filing a FAFSA and have an “unmet financial need” as determined by the Financial Aid Office.
  • The student must be able to provide their transportation to and from the job site.

Responsibilities

  • Execute event management (e.g., help plan, coordinate, and execute the Summer Term speaker series, set up and tear down for programs, facilitate programs – including having the opportunity to introduce presenters and run audience Q&A sessions)
  • Perform core administrative functions including answering phones, word processing, database updates, electronic mailings, record maintenance, etc.
  • Assist with daily operations of the organization, work on special projects and programs as assigned
  • Complete event ticket sales and registrations, printing reports and archiving
  • Assist in research on current projects, spanning programming to publications, presentations to policy work
  • Engage in marketing/communications as needed (i.e. deploying social media strategies during events)
  • Other tasks as assigned by immediate supervisors
