Summer Intern - Affordable Housing Asset Management & Data Analytics
About The Position
Wesley Housing is seeking a motivated Summer Intern to support its Asset Management (AM) team through a blend of financial analysis, portfolio monitoring, and data/dashboard development. This role offers hands-on experience working with real estate performance data, financial reporting, and business intelligence tools, while contributing to improved decision-making across a portfolio of affordable housing communities. Eligible interns must be undergraduate students enrolled in a Virginia college or university. Wesley Housing is a proud participant in the InternshipsVA program.
Requirements
- Undergraduate student enrolled in a Virginia college or university
- Analytical mindset with attention to detail and problem-solving skills
- Strong communication, organization, and time management abilities
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
- Must be able to work on-site in the Alexandria, VA office at least two days per week
Nice To Haves
- Students with at least 30 completed credits preferred
- Strong interest in real estate, affordable housing, finance, data analytics, business, or related field
- Proficiency in Excel; experience with Power BI or Tableau is a plus
- Interest in nonprofit or mission-driven work preferred
Responsibilities
- Review the current Excel Asset Management Dashboard and identify opportunities to improve usability, consistency, and reporting value.
- Assist in updating dashboard formulas, layouts, and reporting formats to make information more accurate, accessible, and actionable.
- Collaborate with the Sr. Database Administrator and Asset Management staff to evaluate how tools such as Power BI and/or Tableau could enhance current dashboard reporting.
- Support the development of sample visualizations, report prototypes, or data models for future dashboard improvements.
- Conduct market research and benchmarking analysis.
- Develop or enhance data visualizations, reporting tools, dashboard prototypes and recommended processes to support long-term maintenance and consistency.
- Present recommendations and a final summer project summary to leadership at the end of the internship.
- Assist the Asset Management team with related summer projects and initiatives as needed.
