About The Position
The Summer Institute Student Intern plays an essential role in supporting the daily operations, instructional activities, and student engagement efforts of the Summer Institute. This position is ideal for motivated, responsible, and service‑oriented college students who want to gain hands-on experience in education, youth development, creative arts, technology, or program administration. Interns work closely with program coordinators, instructors, and residential staff to ensure a smooth, enriching, and well-organized summer experience for all participants. The ideal candidate demonstrates initiative, professionalism, and a genuine commitment to helping students succeed.
Requirements
- Must be a current college student (undergraduate or graduate).
- Strong communication, teamwork, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work with diverse groups of students and staff.
- Dependability, professionalism, and a positive attitude.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including some evenings or weekends.
Nice To Haves
- Experience in tutoring, mentoring, youth programs, or student leadership.
- Interest in education, creative arts, technology, AI, or community engagement.
- Familiarity with Talladega College or HBCU culture.
- Basic proficiency with Google Workspace or similar tools.
Responsibilities
- Assist with daily check-ins, attendance tracking, and movement of students between classes and activities.
- Support instructors with classroom setup, materials preparation, and technology needs.
- Help coordinate workshops, enrichment sessions, and special events.
- Provide logistical support for field trips, guest speakers, and weekend programming.
- Serve as a positive, approachable presence for students throughout the program.
- Help facilitate small-group activities, discussions, and team-building exercises.
- Encourage student participation, creativity, and collaboration.
- Model professionalism, respect, and community standards at all times.
- Assist with data entry, documentation, and program communications.
- Help maintain organized program spaces, supply inventories, and equipment.
- Support staff with incident reporting, scheduling updates, and daily briefings.
- Contribute to program evaluation by gathering feedback and completing end-of-session reports.
- Assist residential staff with evening activities, curfew rounds, and community-building events.
- Help maintain a safe, welcoming environment in residence halls.
- Serve as an additional support resource for students living on campus.
