About The Position

As an intern in this role, you will gain hands-on experience by actively engaging in the daily operations and procedures of our organization. This internship is designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of how our business functions, offering valuable insights that support your professional development and align with your career interests. This role provides an opportunity to gain firsthand exposure to hatchery operations and the commercial poultry production process. Employees will develop an understanding of how daily hatchery tasks support animal care, biosecurity, chick quality, and overall hatchery performance.

Requirements

  • Ability to handle moderate physical work
  • Work with chemicals, such as detergents, disinfectants
  • Stand for extended periods of time (6 hours)
  • Grip, grasp or twist using hands and wrists
  • Lift, carry, push, and/or pull up to 50lbs
  • Bend and stoop repetitively throughout out shift
  • Prolonged exposure to dry and dusty environments
  • Routinely work up to 6 days a week, including weekends and holidays
  • Routine handling and interacting with day-old chicks
  • Ongoing presence of hatchery related debris, smells and odors
  • Climate exposure both hot and cold
  • Working in damp and/or wet environment
  • Working in a loud/noisy environment

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for cleanliness throughout the hatchery building
  • Clean/sanitize machines, tables, floors, ceilings, etc.
  • Transfer eggs from setters to hatchers
  • Make boxes and other general duties
  • Handle day-old chicks in accordance with welfare standards and SOP’s
  • Meet all of the operating procedures as outlined by company policy
  • Prepare newly hatched chicks for sexing and farm delivery
  • Perform other duties as assigned
