Summer Fusion Internship

Realta Fusion•Madison, WI
•Onsite

About The Position

Realta Fusion is seeking curious, analytical summer interns to contribute to work in Science/NBI Research, Experimental Physics, or Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning. Interns will work on fusion-energy research and engineering projects, with assignments tailored to their skills and interests. Science/NBI Research interns assist with construction, installation, and operation of Realta Fusion projects supporting the Wisconsin High-temperature superconducting Axisymmetric Mirror (WHAM) experiment. They gain hands-on experience with high-vacuum systems, pulsed-power hardware, control-system software, and high-temperature superconducting magnets, while supporting experimental research and learning about plasma diagnostics and laboratory operations. Experimental Physics interns assist with setting up, operating, and testing equipment used in fusion experiments. They work with scientists and engineers to collect, analyze, and interpret experimental data related to plasma behavior and performance, and gain experience with plasma diagnostics, laboratory instrumentation, and experimental procedures. Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning interns apply AI and machine-learning techniques to fusion-related research and engineering challenges. They support data analysis, predictive modeling, and the development and evaluation of computational tools using scientific and experimental datasets, collaborating with scientists and engineers on practical applications. The internship is scheduled for summer 2027, between May and August, with flexible start and end dates. It is a full-time, 40-hour-per-week, on-site position at either the Realta Fusion office in Madison, Wisconsin, or the Physical Sciences Laboratory near Stoughton, Wisconsin. If the internship is successful and scheduling allows, there may be an opportunity to continue part-time during the academic year. Realta Fusion states that it values diversity and seeks to foster an inclusive environment. The company provides equal employment opportunities based on merit, without regard to protected status under applicable laws.
