About The Position

Summer nutrition programs are essential for ensuring children and young people have the nutrition they need during the summer months when school is out. The Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) provides nutritious meals at no charge to youth aged 18 and under. The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) funds this program, which is administered at the state level by relevant agencies. Albany Housing Authority is seeking enthusiastic, responsible, and friendly individuals to assist in bringing this program to the community.

Requirements

  • Good knowledge of office practices and procedures.
  • Ability to learn the regulations for the Summer Food Program set forth by USDA/NYS Child Nutrition Program.
  • Ability to maintain cordial and effective working relationships with a wide variety of agencies and individuals.
  • Ability to plan and follow through.
  • Must be tactful and courteous.
  • Good verbal, written communication, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to take initiative and perform with little supervision.
  • Intermediate or advanced computer skills with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word) programs.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in the coordination and monitoring of Summer Food Program sites for program accountability and compliance.
  • Collects daily meal counts and reviews weekly meal counts.
  • Maintains tally sheets and invoices for each site.
  • Handles daily correspondence with the NYS Education Department.
  • Maintains daily correspondence with Albany Housing Authority, Albany City School District, partner sites, program staff, families, and other involved entities.
  • Submits data on the NYS Department of Education’s Child Nutrition website and other required databases.
  • Ensures all sites comply with USDA/NYS Child Nutrition regulations.
  • Conducts 1st and 4th week monitor visits in compliance with regulations.
  • Serves as the liaison between the food vendor and each feeding site.
  • Troubleshoots and resolves issues with the food vendor and feeding sites.
  • Assists Food Services Worker in annual training.
  • Submits/provides weekly reporting and metrics to Albany Housing Authority.
  • Maintains, creates, and updates files for each Summer Food site, ensuring all required paperwork is received.
  • Identifies food vendor, summer feeding sites, activity vendors, and staff, and completes all necessary paperwork and clearances.
  • Completes related work to ensure program compliance with all regulations.
  • Fills in as driver/food service worker as needed.
