Responsible for managing and performing tasks required to provide quality food service programs to the school population to which assigned. Provide nutritious meals, snacks and catering to students, staff and community; maintain accurate accountability.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of food preparation and handling techniques.

  • Ability to assign, coordinate and direct the work of others within the scheduled time.
  • Ability to quickly and accurately complete required recordkeeping and food and supply ordering.
  • Ability to adhere to requirements and policies for drug free and tobacco free workplace.
  • Ability to complete bloodborne pathogen training requirement.
  • Ability to meet district technology standards.
  • Ability to read, write and communicate in English.
  • Ability to read and comprehend required district and food service policies and procedures.
  • Able to write clearly and communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Ability to apply common sense to carry out detailed, but basic, written or oral instructions in English.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, supervisor(s), staff, students, parents and community.
  • Ability to work effectively in stressful situations.
  • Possess a current valid driver’s license.
  • Possess a current valid Person in Charge (PIC) certificate from any county in Oregon.
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).

  • Ability to communicate with Spanish speaking students and adults preferred.
  • Previous successful school or institutional food service preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Work under the direction of the Food Service Supervisor in cooperation with the principal of the school in planning and implementing food service needs.
  • Responsible for the day-to-day direction and training for all adult and student kitchen helpers.
  • Assist in the selection of new or promoted employees.
  • Help evaluate employees.
  • Coordinate orders, food and supply needs, and deliveries with assigned satellite kitchens and/or ancillary serving and/or vending exits.
  • Ensure all employees provide excellent customer service.
  • See that adequate and appetizing food is prepared and served in accordance with planned menus, using standardized recipes at the required time.
  • Coordinates the ordering of food and supplies according to standard procedures.
  • Operate the cafeteria program in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Coordinates the required record keeping and reports in compliance with federal, state, local, and school district policies and procedures.
  • Coordinate the maintenance and operation of the school meal accountability system and preparation of cafeteria bank deposit.
  • Ensure that employees maintain the highest standard of sanitation in personal cleanliness, food preparation and service, food storage, and care of equipment.
  • Direct the daily cleaning of the kitchen.
  • Keep an inventory of all food, paper, and cleaning supplies.
  • Schedule cafeteria substitutes as needed.
  • Provide food services for catering when ordered.
  • Promote the U. S. Dietary Guidelines within the food service operation with students and staff.
  • Assist and/or support all nutrition education projects.
  • Implement marketing and merchandising techniques where needed to promote the food service department.
  • Work with custodial and maintenance staff in maintaining and cleaning of kitchen and equipment.
  • Provide a work environment that encourages teamwork and communication.
  • Attend scheduled food service meetings, in-services and workshops.
  • Perform other duties as required by the Food Service Supervisor.
