About The Position

Compass Early Learning and Care (CELC) is seeking a Summer Cook to join their team. This role involves supporting the nutrition specialist with various kitchen tasks including cleaning, dishwashing, planning, prepping, and cooking nutritious meals and snacks. The cook will adhere to the Canada Food Guide, Ministry of Education, and CELC policies. The position also emphasizes modeling equity and cultural awareness. Hours are dependent on program needs and funding.

Requirements

• Applicants must meet the requirements set out by Canada Summer Jobs.
• Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.
• Has experience working in a kitchen environment.
• Has experience working in a childcare or summer camp setting.
• Valid Food Handler's certificate
• Valid certifications including: Clear Police Vulnerable Sector Check, Standard First Aid and CPR Level C, and Updated immunization records.

Responsibilities

• Supporting planning, prepping and cooking nutritious and delicious meals and snacks
• Maintaining a clean kitchen space.
• Demonstrating respect for spaces by ensuring the safety and cleanliness of all equipment, dishes, furniture, and materials.
• Collaborating with the Nutrition Specialist and Educators.
• Building and maintaining relationships with staff, volunteers, students, community partners, and school staff, including principals, custodians, and teaching teams in shared spaces.
• Preparing food in consideration of children's food allergies and sensitivities.
