About The Position

Summer Camp Counselors are enthusiastic, positive, responsible and caring. These full-time seasonal (July 2 – August 28) positions are responsible for the delivery of an 8-week themed camp. They will help plan and actively lead group activities, supervise and monitor participants, respond and document incidents such as behavioural problems or accidents, and maintain an overall focus on providing a fun, safe camp experience for all participants. The incumbents will also assist in the implementation of programs and special events throughout the Community Services department as required.

Requirements

  • Minimum age: 16 years.
  • Standard First Aid (Level B or C) & CPR (required).
  • Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Physical ability to lead and participate in camp activities.
  • Energetic, responsible, and team-oriented.
  • Criminal Record Check (required).

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience working with youth and for youth programs (preferred).
  • Coaching or leadership training and experience, desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, coordinate, deliver, and facilitate Summer Day Camp programming over an 8-week period. This includes preparing daily and weekly activity schedules.
  • Lead crafts, games, storytelling, sport and recreation activities.
  • Adapt activities to meet diverse needs and abilities.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with parents/guardians of summer programming participants.
  • Assist with clerical duties related to summer day camps.
  • Supervise campers to ensure safety and well-being.
  • Monitor and supervise participants to ensure safety and compliance with camp rules.
  • Encourage positive behavior and resolve conflicts.
  • Document and report details of incidents, such as injuries, accidents, rule violations, etc., to parents and Summer Camp Coordinator.
  • Ensure tasks are performed safely and in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Clean, maintains and ensure proper use of camp facilities, equipment and supplies.
  • Work collaboratively with staff and contribute ideas.
  • Create a welcoming, inclusive, fun camp atmosphere.
  • Act as a positive role model for participants.
  • Assist with set-up, clean-up, and equipment care.
  • Follow all policies, procedures, and safety standards.
  • Assists in the implementation of programs and special events throughout the department as required.
  • Perform related work as required.
