About The Position

The Summer Camp Counselor is responsible for supporting the delivery of activities, supervision, and organization of summer day camp for youth in grades 3-8. This is a full-time, seasonal position with Animal Humane Society, focusing on facilitating summer camp programming from June through August. The role involves daily interaction with animals in a fun environment, working with a team of engaging individuals, and ensuring the safety and well-being of campers.

Requirements

• Experience working with youth in grades 3-8 preferred.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and attention to detail.
• Strong administrative and process management skills.
• Strong multi-tasking and problem-solving skills.
• Proficient with computers, specifically a working knowledge of Microsoft products.
• Must be comfortable with the emotional aspect of work in an animal shelter environment, including the use of humane euthanasia.
• Reliable transportation required.
• Must be FULLY available from June 1-August 21.
• Must be able to pass a background check.

Responsibilities

• Enthusiastically greet campers and guardians as they arrive and depart from camp and record attendance.
• Assist in the direction, supervision, and organization of campers in order to meet the intended camper outcomes.
• Ensure the safety and well-being of campers at all times.
• Participate in the teaching and progression of lessons and activities, including adapting to differing camper ages, abilities and group dynamics.
• Engage with campers during activities and games.
• Assist with the setup and cleanup of camp activities and events.
• Address and resolve any camper issues or conflicts in a positive and constructive manner.
• Escalate camper issues or conflicts as appropriate.
• Provide guardians appropriate feedback and information as needed for their campers to have a successful camp experience.
• Provide support in summer camp programming, including post camp wrap-up.
• Communicate in a positive and professional manner with campers, guardians, other employees, and volunteers.
• Promote a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion to make AHS a welcoming environment for all.
• Clock in and out of shifts using ADP.
• Monitor AHS email and other messaging software.
• Attend and participate in regular team meetings and one-on-one meetings with direct leader and/or on-site Humane Educators.
• May be required to work at a different site based on department needs.
• May be required to attend occasional off-site meetings and events.
