About The Position

S.T.A.R. Camp, sponsored by Personalized Academy of Learning (PALS), is a one-of-a-kind summer experience where fun, purpose, and inclusion come together. Our camp serves children ages 4–12 who are neurodivergent, have learning or developmental differences, or benefit from additional support in a structured, inclusive environment. S.T.A.R. Camp goes beyond traditional summer programs-offering intentional support, joyful learning, and meaningful peer connections. Camp Counselors play a vital role in creating a safe, engaging, and supportive camp experience. Counselors work alongside camp leadership to facilitate structured recreational, creative, and social activities while supporting campers' engagement, confidence, and positive peer interactions. This role is ideal for individuals who are energetic, compassionate, and passionate about inclusive environments.

Requirements

  • High school graduate, GED, or currently enrolled in high school
  • Experience working with children preferred
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team
  • Passion for supporting children in inclusive and structured environments
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to actively participate in indoor and outdoor activities
  • Ability to kneel, squat, sit, stand, and walk for extended periods
  • Ability to sit on the floor and assist campers during activities and transitions
  • Ability to use basic computer or electronic devices as needed
  • Must be physically present at the camp location during scheduled hours
  • Ability to receive and communicate information clearly
  • Maintain consistent safety and supervision standards

Nice To Haves

  • Individuals pursuing or holding a degree in psychology, education, early childhood development, special education, recreation, therapy-related fields, or a related discipline are strongly encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in implementing daily camp activities, including Sports & Movement, Creative Arts, Music, Drama, Culinary Activities, Reading Groups, Water Play, and Social Skills Groups
  • Provide active supervision to ensure camper safety during indoor and outdoor activities
  • Support positive peer interaction, communication, and social engagement
  • Provide guidance to campers with varying developmental, learning, and support needs
  • Assist campers with transitions between activities and maintain structured daily routines
  • Serve as a positive role model for campers and Peer Support Buddies
  • Maintain camp safety procedures and standards at all times
  • Assist with activity preparation, organization, and clean-up
  • Communicate camper needs and concerns with camp leadership in a timely manner
  • Demonstrate professionalism in demeanor, attire, and collaboration in accordance with company policies
  • Accept supervisory feedback and contribute positively to a team-based environment
