About The Position

Tamwood is seeking enthusiastic individuals to join their team as Summer Camp Counselors for the upcoming season. This live-in position involves working with international campers aged 7-17 at university campuses in North America. Counselors will be responsible for ensuring the safety, security, and well-being of a group of campers, while also participating in and delivering camp programming. The role requires living on campus and contributing to a positive and engaging experience for the campers, who come from all over the world to study English, participate in activities, and explore the city.

Requirements

  • College diploma or undergraduate degree studies or relevant experience with children
  • Prior experience working with or supervising children
  • Good interpersonal and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and within a team
  • Ability to maintain enthusiasm and energy for long durations of time
  • Ability to work under pressure with changing priorities and to meet deadlines
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and deal with sensitive issues with tact and discretion
  • Must have valid Basic First Aid and CPR C certification by June 1, 2026
  • Eligible to work in Canada

Responsibilities

  • Manage a Counselor Group (a group of campers)
  • Supervise campers in residence, at activities, on excursions, and during meal times
  • Ensure campers are prepared and on time for activities
  • Ensure camper inclusion within the counselor group and the camp community
  • Generate and maintain camper enthusiasm for English classes, activities, and other special events
  • Participate in and assist with evening programs and excursions (e.g., Disco night, Talent Show, Ice Skating, Bowling)
  • Participate in and/or lead activity sessions (e.g., sports, arts & crafts)
  • Promote the English Only Policy
  • Assist with night duty and on-call duty as assigned
  • Attend all meetings as scheduled by the Camp Administrative Team (e.g., Morning Huddle)
  • Monitor campers’ health, including nutrition, hydration, sun protection, and overall wellness
  • Assist with creating and delivering camp programming (e.g., Conversation Club and Talent Shows)
  • Assist with camper arrival and departure procedures
  • Active participation in pre- and post-camp periods
  • Administer first aid as required
  • Adhere to all Tamwood Policies and Procedures
  • Complete accident, incident, and discipline report forms as required
  • Submit final feedback evaluation at the end of the contract
  • Attend all meals while on duty
  • Wear the camp t-shirt at all times while on duty
  • Perform other duties as needed
