About The Position

We are seeking energetic, responsible, and compassionate Overnight Camp Counselors to support a 2-week residential transition program for youth who are blind or visually impaired. This is a hands-on role focused on helping students build independence, confidence, and real-world skills in a supportive camp environment. Camp will take place at Fairleigh Dickinson University during the last two weeks of July 2026. There will be a training week mid July as well.

Requirements

Current college students or recent graduates preferred (especially in Special Education, TVI, Psychology, or Social Work)
Experience working with blind/visually impaired youth strongly preferred
Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills
Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented residential setting
Preference for candidates age 21+
Must be able to pass a state and federal criminal background check
Must possess a valid NJ Driver's license

Responsibilities

Provide 24/7 supervision and support in a residential setting
Lead and assist with programming focused on college readiness, career exploration, and independent living skills
Support daily routines, personal care, time management, and organization
Reinforce pre-employment skills such as communication, teamwork, and professionalism
Assist with assistive technology (braille, screen readers) and adaptive techniques
Supervise overnight routines, activities, and dorm life
Facilitate community-based experiences and social skill development
Ensure a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment for all participants
Respond to medical, behavioral, or crisis situations as needed
Collaborate with staff and document student progress
