About The Position

The PIIC Summer Camp Cook will support daily operations of the Summer Camp during all program hours. Responsibilities include planning and preparing a nutritious breakfast, light lunch, and afternoon snack for campers and staff, maintaining food safety and sanitation standards, purchasing beverages and refreshments for field trips, assisting with inventory management, and ensuring adherence to policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or GED.
  • Knowledge of safe food handling, preparation, and sanitation practices.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively with minimal supervision.
  • Sensitive to Native American culture.
  • Valid driver's license and proof of insurability.
  • Pass drug screen (UA) and federal criminal background check.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in food service, meal preparation, cafeteria operations, or camp kitchen settings.
  • Food Manager Certification, Food Handler Permit, or willingness to obtain certification.
  • Experience working with youth programs, schools, or summer camps.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and prepare daily nutritious breakfast, light lunch, and afternoon snack for campers and staff.
  • Purchase and organize beverages, snacks, and related food supplies for off-site field trips
  • Ensure all food is prepared, stored, and served in accordance with food safety and sanitation standards.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of kitchen, food preparation, serving, and storage areas.
  • Monitor food inventory and notify supervisor of supply needs.
  • Assist with purchasing food, beverages, and kitchen supplies within approved budget guidelines.
  • Accommodate dietary restrictions, allergies, and special meal requirements as directed.
  • Set up and clean up meal and snack service areas daily.
  • Maintain records related to food purchases, receipts, and inventory as required.
  • Coordinate with camp staff regarding meal schedules, field trips, and special events.
  • Report any safety concerns, equipment issues, or food-related incidents immediately.
  • Follow all Prairie Island Indian Community policies and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
