About The Position

Lee Pesky Learning Center (LPLC) is seeking Literacy pod tutors to join our team for the Summer Bridge program in Wood River. LPLC is a leader in education nonprofits, providing evaluation, intensive intervention, teacher training, and student support. Tutors will teach elementary-aged students during the summer months, following a scripted, evidence-based instructional program and using research-based methods to teach reading. Tutors will be supported by the Director of School & Community Programs and an onsite lead tutor. The role involves maintaining administrative documents such as parent consent forms, attendance records, and lesson progress notes. This position offers transformative work, a collaborative environment, and a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Requirements

  • High school diploma
  • Experience working with young children
  • Knowledge of how to effectively interact with children ages 5 – 8
  • Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written)
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Skilled in using computerized office programs
  • Well organized, detail-oriented
  • Comfortable in a teamwork situation
  • Good problem-solving capabilities

  • Ability to speak Spanish

Responsibilities

  • Teach foundational reading skills to first grade students.
  • Follow scripted lessons for each session.
  • Collect and maintain on-going data (every session) on student performance.
  • Maintain close communication with parents or guardians.
  • Provide a Learning Update to parents or guardians every week.
  • Conduct a final meeting with client/parents.
  • Write Progress Reports, including End of Program Progress Reports.
  • Attend parent/community events.
  • Attend all required events and training.
