About The Position

Cordell & Cordell is seeking highly motivated second-year law students with a genuine interest in family law to join its paid Summer Associate Program. The program is designed to mirror the experience of a first-year associate and provides practical experience in family law, meaningful legal work, direct mentorship, and professional development while working alongside experienced attorneys and firm leaders. Associates may attend the program at an assigned office, and must be able to relocate to or reside in that location for the program. Long-term locations may differ from the summer office, and flexibility in post-graduation destinations is expected. Many participants are offered part-time law clerk positions during their third year and full-time positions after graduation. The position is not eligible for additional rewards, including merit increases and bonuses, or for the full-time benefits package. The hourly pay rate is $35.

Requirements

• Current second-year law student (2028 graduate) in good standing at an accredited law school.
• Demonstrated interest in pursuing a career in family law.
• Law school GPA of 3.0 or higher.
• Ability to relocate to or reside in the assigned office location for the duration of the program.
• Flexibility in destination locations upon graduation from law school.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Applications must include a cover letter, resume, and most current law school transcript.

Responsibilities

• Draft and analyze legal documents in active family law matters.
• Conduct legal research and assist with preparing trial materials.
• Attend court proceedings with experienced attorneys.
• Participate in client meetings and gain insight into case strategy.
• Work closely with a Litigation Partner to develop a foundational understanding of family law practice.
• Participate in firm-sponsored networking and social events.
• Perform other tasks as needed to help run the business effectively.
