About The Position

The Digital Payments team, part of the Savings & Membership Department, is seeking a motivated and analytical Summer Associate. This role involves using data science and business intelligence techniques to address real business challenges within non-card money movement products like ACH, Zelle, Real-Time Payments (RTP), FedNow, member-to-member transfers, wires, Bill Pay, and cross-border payments. The intern will collaborate with analysts and business stakeholders to transform complex data into actionable insights, recommendations, and decision-support tools. The Summer Associate Program is a 12-week internship running from May to August 2027. Applicants must be currently pursuing a degree from an accredited college or university with an anticipated graduation date of December 2027 or later.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Business Analytics, Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • Experience using Python, R, and/or SQL for data preparation and analysis.
  • Experience with exploratory data analysis and working with large or complex datasets.
  • Familiarity with data visualization or business intelligence tools such as Microsoft Power BI or Tableau.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to connect analytical findings to business questions and explain results clearly.

Nice To Haves

  • Coursework or experience in statistics, machine learning, predictive analytics, or optimization.
  • Experience with Spark, Databricks, cloud analytics platforms, or version control tools such as GitHub.
  • Interest in digital payments, financial services, consumer behavior, or product analytics.
  • Experience developing concise presentations or data stories for business audiences.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze member adoption, engagement, transaction flows, and movement of funds across non-card payment products and channels.
  • Examine the member payment journey, including initial adoption and usage changes over time.
  • Evaluate how members use payment products together and identify shifts in behavior across established and emerging payment options.
  • Develop analytical models to identify opportunities for improving product adoption and member experiences.
  • Build dashboards and visualizations to simplify understanding of payment performance and emerging trends.
  • Apply statistical methods to large datasets to support product strategy and business decisions.
  • Assess the impact of payment behavior on member experience, operational efficiency, product economics, and risk.
  • Translate analytical findings into practical recommendations for business stakeholders and leadership.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional partners to understand business questions and define analytical approaches.
  • Clean, prepare, and explore large member and transaction datasets.
  • Write efficient code in Python and SQL and use platforms such as Databricks to analyze large datasets and support repeatable analytics.
  • Use Microsoft Copilot and other approved AI tools to support research, coding, analysis, documentation, and the development of business insights, with appropriate validation of AI-generated outputs.
  • Develop dashboards and visualizations using tools such as Microsoft Power BI or Tableau.
  • Apply statistical, predictive, or prescriptive methods to identify patterns and opportunities.
  • Document methods, assumptions, and findings clearly.
  • Present insights and recommendations to technical and nontechnical audiences.
