About The Position

ESP Associates is seeking a SUE Technician to join its team in North Charleston, South Carolina. The role performs subsurface utility engineering (SUE) field operations, including utility designation, records research, and field documentation. The technician supports DOT, municipal, and public utility projects and uses utility locating equipment in the field. Some out-of-town travel is required, as needed.

Requirements

• 1–3 years of field experience in utility designating.
• Experience designating utilities and performing records research is required; experience in an engineering design environment is preferred.
• Strong management and organizational skills while performing field operations.
• Must be able to travel out of town as needed.
• Must pass a drug screen and background check and have a satisfactory driving record under the company’s driving (MVR) policy.

Nice To Haves

• Working knowledge of Ground Penetrating Radar, electromagnetic pipe and cable locating equipment, and vacuum excavation.
• Experience with DOT, municipal, and/or public utility projects.
• Surveying and/or drafting experience; not required.

Responsibilities

• Designate utilities in the field and perform utility records research.
• Operate Ground Penetrating Radar and electromagnetic pipe and cable locating equipment.
• Support DOT, municipal, and public utility projects.
• Prepare and organize field sketches and digital photographs.
• Complete daily checklists, timesheets, and vehicle navigation.
