About The Position

Surveying And Mapping, LLC (SAM) is hiring a SUE Field Technician to support subsurface utility engineering work. The position assists with locating marked utilities, structures, and control points using plans, maps, and field observations, and accurately records field data using assigned equipment. The technician also performs operator-level maintenance, helps implement approved traffic control plans, operates vacuum trucks and related equipment, and drives commercial motor vehicles. The role includes working outdoors in varied weather and terrain, travel for extended periods, and physical handling of equipment and materials.

Requirements

• Valid driver's license and ability to meet company motor vehicle record standards.
• Ability to travel for extended periods.
• Ability to work outdoors in the full range of weather conditions typically experienced throughout the seasons.
• Ability to walk for extended periods over irregular terrain while carrying or using surface geophysical and surveying equipment, typically weighing less than 30 pounds.
• Ability to pick up and carry equipment, tools, or supplies weighing up to 50 pounds for short distances, including loading and unloading them into and out of vehicles and storage areas, and to assist others with these tasks.
• Ability to remove and replace manhole lids and covers weighing up to 50 pounds with assistance.

Responsibilities

• Assist in identifying marked utilities, structures, and control points on plans and maps and in the field.
• Perform operator-level maintenance on assigned company tools and equipment as required.
• Assist in implementing approved traffic control plans.
• Work toward obtaining the skills in the certification program required for advancement.
• Use assigned equipment efficiently to accurately record field data on marked utilities, structures, and control points.
• Operate a vacuum truck and related tools and equipment, including a jackhammer, pogo-tamper, concrete saw, compressor blower, vacuum hose, air lance, and hand tools.
• Drive commercial motor vehicles.
• Perform other tasks as assigned.
