About The Position

The Success Coach supports High school students in reducing barriers to their graduation. The Success Coach will build developmental relationships and provide one to one support in identifying and addressing barriers that are preventing youth from succeeding in school. The Success Coach will collaborate with Calgary Board of Education personnel and outside agencies to engage students and will liaise with outside agencies and community organizations to assist youth in meeting their individual needs.

Requirements

  • Degree or diploma in Human Services or a related field, and experience working with children, youth, and families. Equivalencies based on a combination of experience, competence and/or personal suitability will be considered.
  • 3-5 years’ experience working with vulnerable youth.
  • Able to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends and in various environments
  • Clear Criminal Record Check with vulnerable sector search and Intervention Record Check required.
  • Valid Alberta driver’s license & access to a vehicle.

Responsibilities

  • Relentlessly engage clients and their natural supports based on the client’s needs.
  • Support clients and their situations objectively and without bias, in a non-judgemental, inclusive and reflective way, that is predictable across consistent meetings.
  • Assist clients in developing their goals using a client centered and strength-based model.
  • Use empathy and understanding to build positive and safe relationships with clients.
  • Create and model appropriate boundaries for clients, consistently maintaining them.
  • Facilitate challenging conversations, surrounding case planning, program expectations, etc.
  • Support in re-connecting and building their natural supports and community connections
  • Handle crisis situations as they arise.
  • Assist clients in all areas of case management, including areas such as housing, life skills development, cooking, cleaning, employment, education, and budgeting.
  • Collaborate with the Calgary Board of Education on client support and case management while meeting Trellis’ program outcomes.
  • Support clients in building a life around the budget based on the finances of the client and/or their family.
  • Assist clients in gaining employment, through resume support and employment opportunities.
  • Assist clients in completing education, as required, based on their goals.
  • Work with youth and their families, both individually and collectively, to negotiate boundaries, manage conflict, and improve communication all aimed at family preservation and/or reunification. This might include crisis resolution, mediation, safety planning, advocacy, facilitated referrals, and system navigation.
  • Actively work to engage with client’s natural supports to ensure that all individual needs and goals are being met, while strengthening the capacity of the whole support network.
  • Assist clients in navigating the appropriate systems, including Healthcare, Income Support Education, etc.
  • Navigate referral processes to ensure that clients are able to access Queer safe, Indigenous- safe, and any other Cultural Supports as needed.
  • Support in reducing barriers to accessing services and stigmas associated with systems navigations.
  • Communicate with community partners in a professional and client centered way.
  • Complete all necessary Intake Documents, Incident Reports and Data Collection as needed.
  • Assist in goal planning documentation for each client, and the necessary quarterly/ annual updates.
  • Complete all case notes for each client, documenting all visits and any additional communications had.
  • Meet all deadlines as assigned to the CAC Accreditation Standards.
  • Commitment to growing and learning with Trellis.
  • Commit to the Program Goals while holding up the Agency Values, Guiding Principles and Practices.
  • Complete all necessary performance reviews documents, by the required deadlines.
  • Commit to foster a culture of Inclusion and Diversity, and Truth and Reconciliation.
  • Complete all mandatory trainings per the Trellis Training Matrix.
  • Meet with your Supervisor for regular supervisions.
  • Maintain openness providing and receiving feedback, in a safe and supportive way.
  • Commit to a positive team culture, learning from and growing with each other.
  • Balance the needs of the individual role with the connection to the team.
