About The Position

The Substitute Teacher will follow teacher’s lesson plans and/or plan, coordinate, collaborate and execute an elementary and/or middle school program. The program will be anchored in the Colorado State Standards, Paideia Principles, and other PSAS adopted materials. The role involves collaborating on activities that support units of instruction, directing students toward positive behavior, and supporting school policies and procedures. The substitute teacher will be held accountable for their actions, convey a professional image, demonstrate initiative, support the mission, have strong time management skills, utilize appropriate decision-making processes, seek appropriate input, demonstrate reliability and dependability, and utilize healthy solutions to resolve issues. Professional communication, interpersonal skills, effective planning and organization skills, and effective problem-solving strategies that reflect a collaborative posture are expected. The teacher will demonstrate overall work knowledge as a K-6 educator through effective instruction that addresses school goals and the needs of diverse learners, implementation of engaging instruction, development and maintenance of a positive learning environment, and effective relations with the learning community. The teacher will uphold the Paideia model through active involvement in life-long learning, setting professional goals, and seeking professional development. This job may be completed remotely if students are unable to be physically present in school due to school decision, external mandates or orders, or other school closure. Remote work is not otherwise considered a reasonable accommodation for serving students.

Requirements

  • Background check
  • High school diploma/GED
  • Ability to work at a desk, conference table, or in meetings of various configurations
  • Ability to stand and circulate for extended periods of time
  • Ability to hear and understand speech at normal levels
  • Ability to see up close, at a distance, and have depth perception
  • Ability to communicate so others will be able to clearly understand normal conversations
  • Ability to bend and twist, stoop, kneel, run and crawl
  • Ability to reach in all directions
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds
  • Participation in payroll automatic deposit

Nice To Haves

  • BA degree
  • Colorado Teaching License or Substitute License
  • Previous experience teaching at the K-8 level
  • Demonstrated technology proficiencies in the use of Microsoft Office, Internet, Simple Webpage building, Electronic Gradebook, and Email
  • Demonstrated ability to work on a team and create instructional units
  • Demonstrated implementation and use of instructional strategies to promote student engagement

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate overall work knowledge as a K-6 educator through effective instruction that addresses school goals and the needs of diverse learners.
  • Implement instruction that is effective and actively engages students in the learning process.
  • Develop and maintain a learning environment that promotes student well-being.
  • Consistently display effective relations with members of the learning community.
  • Represent and uphold the characteristics of an educational professional.
  • Uphold the promises and commitments of the Paideia model by way of their active involvement in life-long learning through setting professional goals and demonstrating completion of those goals and seeking professional development.
