About The Position

Kokua is seeking substitute teachers in San Antonio, TX, for the 2025-26 school year. This role offers the opportunity to make a positive impact in the community, spark a love for learning in students, and help address the teacher shortage crisis. Substitute teachers will enjoy a flexible schedule, the autonomy to choose assignments and locations, and the chance to add representation in the classroom. Kokua provides weekly paychecks, a quick hiring process, and the opportunity to work in K-12 schools across the San Antonio area. This role can serve as a stepping stone for full-time positions at high-performing schools. Kokua offers support from 6 AM to 8 PM daily and reimburses out-of-pocket costs after 10 teaching assignments.

Requirements

1+ year(s) working with students in any setting (classroom, tutoring, coaching, camps, etc.)
Minimum of 48 college credit hours
Confidence to manage a classroom of students
Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently
Strong belief that every child has a unique & powerful gift to share with the world
Ability to pass state & federal background checks

Responsibilities

Lead classrooms and help create a safe, supportive learning environment.
Step in where needed throughout the school day to support the campus, including lunch/recess supervision, hall and bathroom monitoring, tutoring, and proctoring during testing season.
