About The Position

Kokua Education is hiring substitute teachers in the Bronx and across New York City for the 2026–27 school year. Substitute teachers cover classroom assignments in K–12 schools, serve as positive role models, and help foster students’ love of learning. They may also assist with lunch and recess supervision, hallway monitoring, tutoring, and proctoring during testing season.

Teachers can set their own schedules and work up to five days per week, choosing assignments that interest them and schools across the NYC area. Daily positions pay $182 per day, while long-term positions pay $210 per day, with weekly paychecks. The role offers a potential path to permanent positions at high-performing K–12 schools. Kokua provides support daily from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Applications are being accepted for the 2026–27 school year, and interviews can begin immediately.

Requirements

• Completed bachelor’s degree.
• At least one year of experience working with K–12 students.
• Confidence managing a classroom.
• Willingness to step in where needed, including supervision, tutoring, and proctoring.
• Pass state and federal background checks; costs are reimbursed after 10 assignments.
• Believe that every child has a unique and powerful gift to share with the world.

Nice To Haves

• Availability to teach at least three days per week.
• Willingness to commute to two or more boroughs.
• Relevant experience working with students included on the resume.

Responsibilities
