Job Summary The Substitute Teacher at St. Alban Roe Catholic School is responsible for teaching and supervising students in the absence of the regular classroom teacher. This role includes following lesson plans, managing classroom behavior, and ensuring the safety and well‑being of all students. Substitute teachers help maintain continuity in the educational process and may serve across various grade levels and subject areas.

Requirements

  • High school diploma required
  • Teaching certification or substitute teacher permit may be required
  • Prior teaching or classroom experience preferred but not required
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Effective classroom management abilities
  • Flexibility and adaptability across grade levels and settings
  • Basic knowledge of classroom technology and instructional tool

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in education or a related field preferred

Responsibilities

  • Follow lesson plans provided by the absent teacher or school administration
  • Deliver instructional content using appropriate materials and resources
  • Adapt lessons and activities to meet diverse student needs
  • Maintain a safe, respectful, and productive learning environment
  • Enforce school rules and policies
  • Manage student behavior and address disruptions appropriately
  • Actively engage students in learning activities
  • Provide guidance and support to help students understand instructional content
  • Monitor student progress according to lesson plans
  • Administer quizzes, tests, and assessments as required
  • Submit completed student work and reports to the regular teacher or administration
  • Communicate effectively with students, staff, and administrators
  • Report concerns, incidents, conflicts, or accidents to appropriate personnel
  • Ensure the physical and emotional safety of students at all times
  • Follow all applicable health, safety, and emergency procedures
