The Substitute Teacher is a member of the classroom team who helps provide quality education for children and their families. The role’s primary responsibility is to ensure a safe, nurturing environment for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers. Substitute Teachers plan engaging activities that support children’s development, build relationships that promote growth, communicate with staff and families, and maintain consistent routines during the regular teacher’s absence. This is an on-call position. Assignments may occur on random days and last from one day to a week or longer. Substitute Teachers must show up for assignments they accept and work at least one shift every 45 days. The schedule may fluctuate, offering flexibility to balance work with personal commitments. Starting as a substitute may provide a path to other positions, such as Classroom Aide, which include a pay raise and enrollment in a CDA program paid for by UCA.
