The Substitute Teacher is a key member of the classroom team, helping provide quality education for children and their families. The role’s primary responsibility is to ensure a safe, nurturing environment for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers. Substitute Teachers plan engaging activities that support children’s development, build relationships that promote growth, communicate with staff and families, and maintain consistent routines while the regular teacher is absent. This is an on-call role, with assignments offered as needed. Schedules can fluctuate, and assignments may last a day, a week, or longer. Substitutes must be willing to work on varying days and, after accepting an assignment, are expected to attend. They must work at least one shift every 45 days. Pay is $16.00 per hour. Starting as a substitute may provide an opportunity to move into positions such as Classroom Aide, which include a pay raise and enrollment in a CDA program paid for by UCA.
