About The Position

Sacred Heart School in Rockport, Texas, is seeking an exceptional individual for the position of Substitute Teacher. The right candidate will ensure academic continuity in the regular teacher’s absence by following the provided lesson plans to deliver the curriculum, maintain a positive environment through good classroom management, and foster the spiritual, social-emotional, and academic growth of children, in alignment with Catholic teachings. This position is closely connected to and assists the Diocesan Bishop in the performance of his ministry and thereby engages in ministry for the church.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with diocesan policies and procedures
  • Valid Texas driver’s license
  • Must be 21 years of age or older
  • Strong oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and prioritize tasks
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Must successfully complete pre-employment screening including criminal history background check, motor vehicle record review (MVR), and drug screening
  • Certification in Safe Environment training provided by the Office for Safe Environment and Child & Family Resources is required
  • Must adhere to all Diocesan policies and procedures

Responsibilities

  • Acts as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic church
  • Continuously grows in the ministry by participating in religious ceremonies, training sessions, and reflection activities as directed
  • Support the school's Catholic identity, lead or participate in daily prayers, and integrate Christian values into daily interactions with students
  • Execute the lesson plans and learning goals left by the regular teacher. Provide educational instruction, reinforce skills, and collect assigned student work
  • Maintain an engaging, respectful, and disciplined classroom environment
  • Monitor students during transitions, lunch, recess, and other campus activities to ensure a safe environment
  • Leave detailed notes for the regular teacher regarding class progress, completed work, and any behavioral incidents
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Demonstrates a professional attitude as a member of diocesan staff
  • Maintains confidentiality in matters of assigned department and the diocese
  • Serves as a representative of the diocese displaying courtesy, tact, positivity, and discretion in all interactions with colleagues and community served
  • Carries out commitments made to diocesan colleagues and community served
  • Employs professional ethics in relationships with diocesan colleagues and community served
  • Positively contributes to the overall mission and values of the Diocese of Corpus Christi to promote a positive organizational culture
