About The Position

The Overlake School, an independent, non-profit, NWAIS accredited 5th-12th grade school, seeks an individual to join our substitute pool for the 2026-2027 school year. Founded in 1967, The Overlake School is an independent, nonsectarian, coeducational, college preparatory day school. Requirements

  • Experience teaching middle school or high school age students of all backgrounds
  • BA or BS
  • Effective classroom management skills (ability to be flexible and improvise in a classroom)
  • Proficiency with classroom technology and email
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Pass a background check
  • Reliable transportation

Responsibilities

  • Accepting substitute assignments to cover classes for the day, sometimes on short-notice.
  • Teach three to four classes a day.
  • Follow the plan provided by the teacher and not initiate your own plan unless there are extenuating circumstances.
  • Reinforce a culture of respect and on-task behavior with the students.
  • Take attendance beginning of each class.
  • Send a report to teacher at the end of each class, updating on how the block went.
