About The Position

The Substitute Teacher provides instruction, supervision, and care for students in the absence of the regular classroom teacher. The Substitute Teacher follows lesson plans, maintains established classroom routines and expectations, and creates a safe, respectful, and productive learning environment. The Substitute Teacher may serve across various grade levels and subject areas and is responsible for maintaining continuity of instruction while supporting the academic, social, emotional, and spiritual development of students. As a member of the Catholic school community, the Substitute Teacher is expected to support and uphold the school's Catholic mission and serve as a positive role model of faith, respect, kindness, responsibility, and service.

  • All candidates receiving an employment offer must submit a pre-employment screening. The screening will include criminal background check, Family Care Safety Registration, drug screen, employment and educational licensure/certification verification, health screening, and any other screenings deemed necessary for employment. Any offer would be contingent upon successful completion of any required screening.

Responsibilities

  • Follow lesson plans and instructional materials provided by the absent teacher or school administration.
  • Deliver planned instructional content using appropriate classroom materials, technology, tools, and resources.
  • Provide clear directions and guidance to students regarding assignments, classroom activities, and expectations.
  • Adapt lessons or activities as appropriate while maintaining the instructional goals established by the regular teacher.
  • Provide appropriate support and encouragement to students with differing learning needs.
  • Maintain classroom routines, procedures, and instructional expectations established by the school and regular classroom teacher.
  • Monitor student progress and participation and communicate relevant observations to the regular teacher or school administration.
  • Maintain a safe, respectful, orderly, and productive classroom environment.
  • Establish and reinforce appropriate classroom expectations in accordance with school policies.
  • Manage student behavior fairly, consistently, and respectfully.
  • Address disruptions, conflicts, and student concerns using appropriate classroom-management strategies.
  • Maintain active supervision of students at all times and follow school procedures for transitions, recess, lunch, arrival, dismissal, and other assigned duties.
  • Seek assistance from the Principal or designated school staff when student behavior or other situations require additional support.
  • Maintain appropriate professional boundaries with all students.
  • Follow all school policies and procedures related to student safety, confidentiality, discipline, and supervision.
