About The Position

The Substitute Teacher is responsible for providing classroom instruction, supervision, and support in the absence of the regular classroom teacher. The Substitute Teacher follows lesson plans and school guidelines while maintaining a safe, structured, respectful, and productive learning environment. In a Catholic school setting, the Substitute Teacher is expected to support the school’s Catholic identity and mission by modeling Christian values, demonstrating respect and compassion toward students, and contributing to a positive, faith-filled educational environment.

Requirements

Valid substitute teaching license or permit, if required by state or diocesan regulations.
Ability to effectively follow written and verbal instructions.
Ability to maintain classroom structure and manage student behavior appropriately.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to adapt quickly to different grade levels, subjects, classrooms, and teaching environments.
Dependable, punctual, professional, and able to work independently.
Commitment to maintaining a safe, respectful, and supportive learning environment.
Willingness to support and respect the Catholic identity, mission, traditions, and values of the school.

Nice To Haves

Previous experience working with children or adolescents in an educational, childcare, youth, or related setting preferred.

Responsibilities

Follow lesson plans, classroom procedures, and instructions provided by the regular teacher.
Provide instruction and learning support across a variety of subjects and grade levels, as assigned.
Maintain a positive, orderly, and respectful classroom environment.
Establish clear expectations for student behavior and consistently follow school rules and policies.
Provide appropriate supervision and ensure the safety and well-being of all students.
Take accurate attendance and manage daily classroom routines and procedures.
Assist students with assigned classroom work and provide clarification or support when appropriate.
Adapt effectively to different classrooms, grade levels, subjects, and student needs.
Monitor student behavior and address routine classroom issues using appropriate classroom-management strategies.
Communicate significant student behavior, concerns, incidents, or other relevant information to the appropriate school staff.
Supervise students during classroom activities, transitions, lunch, recess, assemblies, arrival, dismissal, and other assigned duties.
Maintain confidentiality regarding student information and school matters.
Use classroom materials, technology, and resources appropriately and responsibly.
Follow all school policies, procedures, safety guidelines, and emergency protocols.
Support the Catholic identity, mission, and values of the school.
Participate respectfully in prayer, religious activities, and other faith-based practices as appropriate to the school environment.
Serve as a positive role model by demonstrating professionalism, patience, kindness, responsibility, and respect.
