Maternity Leave Substitute Teacher

About The Position

St. Michael School in Streator is seeking a substitute teacher for a First Grade classroom during the regular teacher’s maternity leave. The substitute will help maintain a positive, effective learning environment for 20 students, with support from a classroom aide. The role involves initially implementing lesson plans provided by the absent teacher and creating lesson plans as the assignment continues. The substitute should foster an inclusive, supportive classroom aligned with Catholic faith values and teachings.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree.
Illinois Substitute Certification.
Familiarity with Catholic teachings and values.
Strong classroom management skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Flexibility and adaptability to different teaching environments.
Ability to maintain a positive and nurturing learning atmosphere.

Responsibilities

Implement the absent teacher’s lesson plans initially and create lesson plans as the assignment continues.
Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment aligned with Catholic faith values and teachings.
Communicate and engage students effectively in the learning process.
Establish and maintain an organized, disciplined classroom.
Enforce school policies and procedures and promote respect and responsibility.
Manage student behavior fairly and consistently.
Collaborate with school staff and administrators to address concerns or issues.
Communicate expectations and assignments clearly to students.
Arrive punctually and be prepared to assume the absent teacher’s responsibilities.
Dress professionally in accordance with the school’s dress code.
Maintain confidentiality regarding sensitive student and staff information.
Adapt to different grade levels and subjects and accept assignments on short notice.
