About The Position

Kokua Education is hiring substitute teachers for the 2026–27 school year in Rockford, Illinois. Substitute teachers work in K–12 schools and help maintain learning and classroom routines when regular teachers are absent. The role may also include lunch and recess supervision, hallway monitoring, tutoring, and proctoring during testing season. Teachers can choose their schedule and assignments, with work available up to five days per week. Requirements

• At least six months of experience working with students in any setting, such as a classroom, tutoring, or coaching.
• An associate degree or at least 60 credit hours.
• An Illinois Substitute Teaching License or Paraprofessional License; applicants without a license may complete the online application process with Kokua’s guidance.
• Confidence managing a classroom of students.
• Willingness to step in where needed, including supervision, tutoring, and testing proctoring.
• Pass state and federal background checks; costs are reimbursed after 10 assignments.
• Currently reside in or be willing to commute to Rockford.
• Candidates currently on the CPS do-not-hire list cannot be hired.
