About The Position

The Substitute Assistant/Teacher Aide supports the teacher and assistant teacher in creating responsive, age-appropriate experiences that foster children’s physical, social, emotional, and intellectual growth. The role applies Head Start Performance Standards, program component plans, and Developmentally Appropriate Practices. It also supports classroom operations, children’s activities, a safe and healthy environment, and compliance with applicable requirements and agency policies.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Experience working with children.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office products.
• Ability to plan and carry out assignments independently.
• Ability to prioritize, adhere to timelines, and multitask.
• Age-appropriate Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential.

Responsibilities

• Apply Head Start Performance Standards, component plans, and Developmentally Appropriate Practices.
• Assist with children’s daily activities and field trips, and with selecting and arranging classroom equipment and materials.
• Collaborate with classroom staff to maintain classroom operations and meet children’s individual and collective needs.
• Help maintain a safe and healthy classroom, including proper maintenance and storage of equipment, furniture, materials, and supplies.
• Assist with daily health checklists and monthly environmental checklists.
• Help ensure files are complete, accurate, and confidential.
• Assist with the overall direction and evaluation of the classroom in accordance with federal, state, and local requirements, agency policies, and applicable laws.
• Perform other duties as required.
