About The Position

Dorchester County Public Schools is currently accepting Substitute Teacher applications for the 2026 -2027 school year. The Guest Educator is responsible for implementing lesson plans and maintaining classroom order in the absence of the regular educator (teacher). This role ensures continuity in student learning and upholds school policies and procedures.

Requirements

• Must be 18 years of age.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Must pass a criminal background check and fingerprinting (fee: $40).
• Must complete the Safe Schools Training Program.
• Must attend the DCPS Substitute Workshop.
• Must work a minimum of 28 hours per month (Equivalency: 4 days per month).

Nice To Haves

• Associate’s degree preferred.
• Prior teaching or childcare experience preferred.
• Strong communication and classroom management skills.
• Flexibility and adaptability to different classroom environments and grade levels.

Responsibilities

• Follow lesson plans provided by the regular teacher to facilitate classroom instruction.
• Maintain a safe, respectful, and inclusive classroom environment.
• Manage student behavior and enforce classroom rules.
• Take attendance and report any issues or incidents to school administration.
• Leave a summary of the day’s activities for the returning educator.
• Adapt teaching methods to meet the needs of students when necessary.
• Supervise students in classrooms, hallways, cafeterias, and other school settings as needed.
• Uphold school rules, administrative procedures, and board policies.
